I admit that I am ahead of the game on this one. This pattern has been fully tested prior to posting (isn't that a relief for those of you following along?). Here is a photo of my completed throw.
I just love using my Sepia filter! Such an antique look. |
I would like to thank Connecting Threads for sponsoring this year's Quilt-A-Long on my blog. Last week, on their blog Notions they featured my wall-hanging version of this project as lucky #13 of the Gifty Galore features. I am thrilled to be a part of this program. You can down-load your copy of this pattern exclusively from Connecting Threads HERE. Also, all of the awesome fabrics shown you can purchase from my blog sponsor at Connecting Threads.
Today's post is all about creating the Pumpkin Blocks.

Strip-piece the pumpkin stems:

· Sew the cream strips to each side of the brown print.
· Press seams towards the brown fabric.
· Cut these into strips for the pumpkin stems:
2 ½” wide by 6 ½” for the large pumpkin.
1 ½” wide by 6 ½” for the two small pumpkins.
You will need 2 large pumpkin stems and 4 small pumpkin stems for the wall hanging. The throw requires 8 large pumpkin stems and 16 small pumpkin stems. To Piece the Large Pumpkin:
· Select the medium-orange print rectangles measuring 7” by 6 ½”.
· Select four 2” squares and draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of these pieces.
· Layer a 2” square on top of an orange rectangle corner.
· Sew down the drawn line.
· Trim the fabric to create a ¼” seam allowance and discard the excess.
· Press seam towards the orange pumpkin.
· Repeat for the remaining 4 corners.
· Add the stem to the elongated pumpkin. Press away from the stem to reduce bulk.
· Add the two remaining white 2 ½” by 6 ½” strips to the top and bottom of the pumpkin.
· Create 2 large pumpkins for the wall hanging and 8 for the throw quilt.
To Piece the Small Pumpkins: Refer to the above photo, the process is the same but with different sized pieces.
· Select the light-orange print rectangles measuring 4 ½ ” by 6 ½”.
· Add the one remaining white 1 ½” by 6 ½” strips to the top of the pumpkin.
· Create two light and two dark small pumpkins for the wall hanging or eight light and eight dark pumpkins for the throw quilt.
