WiP Wednesday

So...here's my Work in Progress and I'm linking up to WiP Wednesday on http://freshlypieced.com .  I've also linked up to http://teamquiltsy.blogspot.com/.

I had a customer have me machine quilt her hand-pieced antique Grandmother's Flower Garden top.  As it was both old and hand-pieced, it required some TLC.  Not just any quilt pattern would do to reinforce those delicate seams.  So we settled on the alternating swirls because I would be able to hand-guide the swirls into the hand pieced ditch and then reinforce the seam at it's 1/4 inch seam allowance thus mimicking the 1/4 inch traditional hand quilting.  We both enjoyed how it turned out.

I also quilted my Stop 'N Go quilt top but decided to have some fun with the backing and pieced it.  I used 4 total yards of 4 different prints of backing.  I cut each fabric along the cross-wise grain into strips measuring 8 1/2 inches by 44 inches then sewed them into strips of 8 1/2 inches by 88 inches long.  Then I sewed all 8 strips together to create the back.  It's fun, you should try it some time.  It makes the quilt back much more interesting (and I've read adds value to the quilt as the back is now considered "pieced" too).

Here's a close-up of the back.

Here's a close-up of th front with some other newly finished projects laying around.

Until next time, Happy Quilting everybody!

  1. Charming hexagon work. I am jealous - I have 3 hexagons made and only about 597 left to go!

  2. I really like the narrow light border between the two dark borders; and the orange/red binding. It's a beautiful quilt!
